Maths is the most beautiful and most powerful creation of the human spirit.
The important thing to remember about maths is not to be frightened, it teaches you the art of patience, it is the music of reason and is the only place where truth and beauty mean the same thing.
Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject. We will endeavour to ensure that you are equipped with the numeracy and mathematical skills you need for life. Develop secure knowledge and understanding about why methods work, develop transferable skills such as logical thinking, problem-solving and constructing arguments. Above all else, we will inspire you to develop a love and inquisitiveness of mathematics that will enable you to progress into further study.
The Edexcel GCSE Maths curriculum builds on prior knowledge by introducing new concepts that extend previously learnt material. The curriculum spirals topics, meaning that key concepts are revisited and expanded over time, allowing pupils to deepen their understanding and retain information more effectively. Regular retrieval practices are incorporated through frequent assessments which help reinforce learning and improve long-term retention. Long Term Retention strategies within curriculum include spacing/interleaving/feedback.
