Hull University Computing Visit

ICT Teacher, Mr Knott writes:

We took a group of Year 10 and 11 students on a visit to the University of Hull Computer Science department; we had a look at the department and were given a lecture by Rob Miles on how to build and program our own gadgets; Rob demonstrated a Tweet printer and Camera that he had built. Afterwards we were given a talk by the in-house software company called SEED and then shown around the 3D environment in HIVE; this was amazing! We were treated to a full 3D experience and also allowed to play with some of the interactive toys to move the 3D models around.

After lunch we were given a tour of the campus and the students were given the opportunity to have any questions about university life answered and to find out anything that they wanted to know about how life at university was. All students enjoyed their day at the university and were very enthused about computer science and their GCSE Computing course.

We are hoping to make the trip an annual event to allow students to get an idea of what would be necessary to pursue a career in computer science. I think we managed to create some budding computer scientists and games programmers.
