Welcome to our Parents' page
Parents have the biggest influence on the lives of their children. Teachers and support staff are committed to working closely with parents to ensure that the education provided fulfils our aims. To make our commitment clear we have produced a policy called Parent Connect which provides a list of those things parents can expect from working in partnership with the college.

Parent Connect
South Holderness Technology College is committed to working with parents to raise standards and to sustain improvements. Based upon the Specialist Schools project called Engaging Parents; Raising Achievement (EPRA), the college has adopted the following Parent Connect policy.
Parents can:
- Access policy documents like this on the college website.
- Expect the college calendar on the website to be an up to date record of events for parents.
- Expect teachers to use ParentMailTM (with paper copies where needed) to advertise events - particularly those concerned with raising the achievement of students e.g. additional lessons, booster classes.
- Expect, where parents have provided an email address, that the college will use this as the preferred means of communication.
- Expect there to be a standard approach to Parents' Evenings which are organised by the pastoral managers and evaluated by parents.
- Expect to be invited to meetings/events through a variety of media - web calendar, email, paper, text messaging. We will try to contact parents who are unable to attend Parents' Evenings.
- Assume that when they communicate with the college using the email form and request a reply, that an email acknowledging receipt will be sent within 2 working days and a further response if needed will be sent within 5 working days. This applies to teachers and support staff alike.
- Expect to be surveyed in order to give their views on important issues. They should expect the college to respond and communicate the nature of this response.
- Expect to be informed by Subject Leaders, through the website ‘Curriculum' pages, of the courses taught to students in each key stage.
- Expect an increasing number of homework tasks and resources to be available online in the college Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle).
- Expect to have secure access to the "Learning Platform" when it is introduced.
- Expect meetings to be arranged to inform them about what students are learning at key times (e.g. at the end of years 9, 11 and 12/13) so that parents can give appropriate support.
- Expect to be informed of the successes of their child(ren) through the Progress Grade Sheets (including points on our rewards system) and events like the Awards Ceremony.
- Expect to be informed of achievements of students in the college through the publishing of e-newsletters (with paper copies where needed).
- Expect to be informed of learning opportunities for themselves through our Adult Education Centre and for their children through the extended curriculum provision.
- Expect communication to be regular and frequent regarding the progress of students and their achievements.
- Be asked to evaluate some college events.
- Expect to be told about students' progress, attitude and behaviour, level and grade targets and current achievement through Grade Sheets, Progress Review Days and reports.
- Expect the transition from another school to SHTC to be well organised with good levels of communication during the process.
- Expect to receive information through the Parents' Page on the college website of how best to keep informed about new policies introduced by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. Visit the DCSF Parents' Centre.
